The North Wind’s Kiss

Ere long, the North Wind’s Kiss
too soon will come.

Her constellations gather
with joyful anticipation, for
her Kiss
brightens their stars,
and drapes them in all their
celestial finery.

The fleeing sun trips, and
drops its light.
Extinguished now, and
shows its belly
to the freezing night
that savages, with cold fangs,
its crimson carcass to
warmer climes.

She smiles, and betrays us with a kiss.
The red blush
of berries and cardinals’ feathers
hide
the treacherous blue
of her
frosty lips.

Around her,
a cloak of virgin snow
trimmed with
crystals of ice.

In one hand,
a bough of evergreen,
the scepter
that bows not to the
bitter wind,
her chill herald.

She comes in all her
dread and fearsome
Majesty
to drive us to
our hearths,
our blankets, and
our graves.

And lays
another tender, loving hand
across the seeds
of
Spring

Move Ye Not the Ancient Stone

Move ye not the ancient stone

Things beneath best left alone

Wait upon thy freeing hand

So they walk upon the land

Once to fright us

Twice to kill

Thrice the darkened void

to fill

Stay thy hand

from ancient stone

Guard of spirit

flesh and bone

Me and thee

and everyone

til the rising

of the sun

Move ye not the ancient stone

Move ye not the ancient stone

In the Mean Time

In the Mean Time

We count for nothing

We are prone to anyone’s impulse to violence

Whether they wear a badge or watch the community….

In the Mean Time

We are hated for things that have nothing to do with

who

we are (not just a skin color)

In the Mean Time

We are shot like rabid dogs

regardless of guilt or innocence

In the Mean Time

Are our prayers even heard?

Is our suffering even

moving the hearts

of

anyone,

anywhere?

In the Mean Time,

we must go on

and strive to exist,

and fight to survive

and struggle to live

in hostile territory

surrounded by

enemies

shouting

curses and untruths

behind their walls

of

hate and fear.

In the Mean Time

We must continue to

Love

one another

and

our enemy,

even as we

contend with his ignorance.

In the Mean Time

Life for us here is hard,

but it can and will

get worse

if we

give up

in the

Mean Time.

Precipice

Now immortal fires burn

Step up now and take your turn

Hopeless now for you to yearn

Endless lesson, never learn

Look into the dark abyss

On your lips a demon kiss

Living in a joyless bliss

How’d it ever come to this?

Not too late to step away

Walk into the light of day

Fighting in the frenzied fray

Clinging to life’s edge

You stay.

Inclement Whether

Misty

now the memories

Snatches of bright, clear light and holiday colors

lost in the fog

The promises sound evil and hollow, the songs like moans of pain

Open mouthed laughter is replaced by tremulous smiles

Hands, once pressed hard together, and locked with interlaced fingers,

unravel

as the rope uncoils,

and our ships sail out across the

stormy waters

of a last and longing look at fading love,

at the flickering mirage

of you and me,

battered

by the blizzard of

indifference

that arrived so suddenly.

Whether or not we’d weather it was the question.

And in the calming wake of

absence

lies the answer,

in the depths and

unsalvageable wreckage

of our

separate selves.

Love’s New Land

In the dappled sunlight fading

Amber embers in the clouds

Shadows lengthen, colors shading

Pretty eyes in evening shrouds

My heart leaps up at the vision

As your smile beams from your lips

My soul dances in the music

from your tender fingertips

Come with me to walk the path now

Here together, hand in hand

Work with me to do the math now

We are

two,

in Love’s new land

Mask

In the music of her laughter

In the sweetness of her smile

Was revealed this truth hereafter:

Mocking bird and crocodile

Centerpiece

Brilliant colored fantasies

Dreams of ash and rust

Special, tender touches

Calculating lust

Sunny, happy memories

And abandoned plans

Butterflies on gilded wings

Useless broken fans

Such things life is made of;

What else can we do?

In the fabric of my fate

The

centerpiece

is you.

RAIN

As I listen the rain

Each new drop’s a fresh new pain

Memories blossom in my brain

As I listen to the rain

To new places you have gone

Laughing as you travel on

Never caring, dusk til dawn

It’s my heart you’ve walked upon

As I sit and watch the sky

Cry the tears I cannot cry

Clouds all hide the reasons why

As I sit and watch the sky

Others hold you in their arms

Never hearing the alarms

Muffled by your many charms

Unaware your poison harms

Solitude’s new denizen

Seems the sun won’t shine again

I was very happy then

Guess I’ll just remember when….
